Grass Fire on 12/01/2019

December 1, 2019

Ward Six Firefighters were dispatched today at 3:00pm to a grass fire on Coward Road that was out of control and threatening structures. Upon our arrival, several homes and a barn were in danger of catching fire. Firefighters from Ward Six, DeQuincy and Gordon Fire Depts were able to quickly contain and extinguish the fire with no damage to any structures.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind citizens to refrain from burning during dry and windy conditions. If your fire gets out of control and damages someone else’s property, you are responsible for any damages that occur.

While fighting this fire, we were called to respond to another fire located on the corner of Gideon & Corley Roads. Upon arrival, a property owner was burning a pile of trash that included plastics, household materials, batteries, aerosol cans, furniture, leaves and plywood. Firefighters extinguished that fire with no damage to any surrounding structures. Please remember, our parish ordinance prohibits burning of anything other than leaves or other natural products such as small limbs or pine straw.
