At 9:22am, Ward Six Fire Protection District No. One responded to a report of smoke coming from a residential structure in the 1000 blk of Hwy 389. DeQuincy Volunteer Fire Department and HOUSTON RIVER FIRE DEPARTMENT were also dispatched as automatic aid.
Upon arrival of Ward 6 Engine 5, smoke was observed coming from the structure and Good Samaritan citizens were using a garden hose to control the fire. Handlines were deployed and entry was made for offensive fire attack and search operations toblocate a pet dog still in the residence.
The fire was contained to the room of origin, unfortunately the dog was discovered deceased in the structure. There were no injuries to firefighters and the home occupants were not at home at the time of the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
