Refinery Fire

On Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 2:56pm, Ward 6 Fire responded to a mutual aid request to provide 3,000 gallon tankers in support of the tank fire that occurred at Calcasieu Refining. Agencies from throughout SWLA responded through the SWLA Mutual Aid Associ Two 3,000 gallon Pumper/Tankers, Command Unit 901 and 5 Firefighters responded responded. Tankers from Lake Charles FD, Ward 1 Fire Department, and Westlake Fire Department responded and formed a strike team. While in staging this strike team of Tankers were assigned to assist law enforcement with the evacuation of homes close to the event and Graywood Estates. The Tankers were then staged on standby should additional water would be needed for suppression efforts.

Ward 6 Engine 15 was relieved by a Tanker from Ward 2 Bell City at approx 9:45pm and returned to the Ward 6 district, Westlake FD Tanker was relieved by a Tanker from Ward 8 Fire District (Lebleu) at the same time.

Ward 6 Engine 17 was relieved by two Tankers from Beauregard Parish Fire District 2 at approx 10:30pm and returned to Ward 6 district.

Unit 901 was used as a staging logistics vehicle to coordinate communications for the staging of mutual aid Tankers. Unit 901 was released and returned to Ward 6 District at about 3:10am on 6-4-2023.

HOUSTON RIVER FIRE DEPARTMENT and DeQuincy Volunteer Fire Department were placed on standby to assist with calls in the Ward 6 district while we responded to this event.
