On Monday, June 5, 2023, Ward 6 and HOUSTON RIVER FIRE DEPARTMENT firefighters joined together at Johnson Robinson Funeral Home to honor the service of former Ward 6 Fire Asst Chief Oneida Fay Barton. Fay passed away on Friday, June 2, 2023 after a valiant battle with cancer.

Fay was a founding volunteer member in 1986 when Ward 6 Fire District was formed, served as secretary, and many years as the Asst. Chief assigned to Station 3. Fay and her husband Wes retired from volunteer service in 2011 after dedicating 25 years to the Community of Ward 6 in Calcasieu Parish. Firefighters performed honor guard service during the visitation on Monday night.

On Tuesday, June 6, following an early morning structure fire, firefighters quickly transitioned to Class A uniforms and attended the funeral at Our Lady of Lasalette Church in Sulphur. Fire trucks escorted our sister to Mimosa Pines Cemetery where we honored Fay with a bell ceremony and the Last Call.
