Firefighter Spotlight #5 Captain Loy Bader began his fire service career as a junior firefighter in 1988 at Johnson Bayou and joined Ward 6 Fire Protection District #1 as a volunteer in 1989 before leaving to join the military In 2015, Captain Bader rejoined the department as a volunteer firefighter, he was promoted to Captain in 2021. Captain Bader is also a volunteer with Beauregard Fire District #2 and assigned to the Gordon Station.

Captain Bader holds certifications in Apparatus Driver Operator, Haz Mat Awareness and Operations, Firefighter 1 & 2, Fire Service Instructor 1 and Officer 1. Captain Bader has been assigned training officer duties since his promotion to captain and mentor’s new members of the department when they join as a volunteer.

Loy has a career in Law Enforcement as his full-time job and is currently employed by the DeQuincy Police Department. Loy is the father of three daughters Chelsey, Ashley, and Sara. His commitment to public service not only as a volunteer firefighter, but also as a law enforcement officer illustrates the desire he has to protect and serve his community. When not volunteering or working in law enforcement you can catch Loy enjoying his favorite hobby of fishing, especially salt water fishing.

What are your goals in the fire service? To become a better leader and training officer, provide knowledge and experience to new volunteer members of the department.

Why do you volunteer? It’s a calling, public service with the fire department, serving in the military, and working as a law enforcement officer help me to fulfill the passion I have for making a difference in others lives. I’ve been fighting fires since I was a teenager.
