| At approx. 8:54pm, Ward 6 Fire was dispatched to Hwy 27 and High Hope Rd to investigate a report of a substance spilled on the roadways that was creating a hazard for vehicle driving through the intersection.
Upon arrival, it was discovered that a large quantity of drilling mud had been spilled. Fire department and CPSO closed Hwy 27 and made contact with Louisiana State Police and LA. DOTD to respond with equipment to remove the mud and make the travel lanes safe.
HOUSTON RIVER FIRE DEPARTMENT was requested as mutual aid for manpower and to shut down Hwy 27 NB at Houston River rd. Ward 6 Engine 7 closed Hwy 27 SN at Buhler Station Rd.
Incident Command met with contractors from a local pipeline project and was advised the mud did not contain any oily substance. The crews brought a sweeper and numerous employees to remove the excess mud.
Firefighters then were able to wash down the road under direction of DOTD. Upon completion of the wash down, DOTD applied a light layer of granular absorbent to ensure there were no residual slick spots. Hwy 27 was reopened to traffic at approximately 11:00pm. |
